Varadero Palma

Ah, Varadero — where the sea view is breathtaking, and so is the complete absence of service. On our last visit, three waiters were standing at the bar, clearly in deep philosophical discussion about why one should serve customers at all. We sat patiently for fifteen minutes, watching them study the art of ignoring guests with admirable dedication.

When attention finally arrived, it came in short, confused bursts — forgotten orders, misplaced drinks, and the occasional vanishing act. The restaurant was nearly empty, but somehow still managed to feel understaffed by enthusiasm alone.

To add to the charm, many tables were left uncleared, creating a delightful “afterparty” aesthetic — bottles and glasses left behind like modern sculptures of neglect.

Such a pity, really. With its perfect location, Varadero could easily be a gem. Instead, it’s a masterclass in how to turn a great view into a bad memory.

They have an amazing view, but for me it’s not worth the tradeoff: you can either eat very good food in the center with less of a view, or eat mediocre food here with an amazing view. My suggestion is to come here for a drink and enjoy the view, and then go to one of the countless great restaurants around. That way, you get the best of both worlds.

Nice views across the harbour of the Cathedral, close to the entrance for all the cruise ships (we are not on a cruise), strange glass if you ask for non alcoholic cocktails, service quick but without a smile! Very quiet as it is a distance from the harbour, but may fill up with cruise customers when they are returning. No food on offer that I could see.

One of the best views we have had having a refreshing drink. Great location down at the marina with the cathedral in the background. Service was ok but we only had a drink. 2 pepsi were €5.90 and I must admit for the location and setup I expected them to be more expensive. Good value.
